What we offer...

Our firewood is sold in bulk bags. Each bag holds 1 cubic metre of loosely packed, not stacked, firewood logs. 

The logs sold are 9 inches or 22cm in length. This size is suitable for most log burning stoves.

Rawlogs offers kiln dried logs, both hardwood and softwood. We supply a blend of species of hard and softwood, varying each year depending on what has been felled or fallen. Birch, Beech, Oak, Alder, Sycamore and Ash are typical hardwoods we supply whereas spruce and larch are the main softwoods. Despite the difference, the basic rule is as long as the wood is dry, less than 20% moisture content, then they will all burn with equal efficiency.

Hardwood or softwood?

Despite what you may have heard, softwood makes perfectly good firewood, the only difference being you may have to load your stove or fire more often than hardwood. Hardwood and softwood have roughly the same energy output by weight, the difference is density. You need about 1.5 times the volume of softwood logs as hardwood to produce the same amount of energy. Here at Rawlogs we price our firewood to reflect the statement above, our hardwood is £136.50 per bulk bag whereas our softwood is £84 per bulk bag. The decision between which you choose is a matter of personal preference.

Part-seasoned or kiln dried?

With new UK legislation coming into force, in 2022 it will be forbidden under the Clean Air Act to sell firewood of greater than 20% moisture content in volumes less than 2 cubic metres. We no longer provide part seasoned logs.

Kiln dried logs have a moisture content of less than 20% and therefore are ready to burn. The lower moisture content means that it gives a hotter, more even and cleaner burn.
